Discover Our Story and Vision

Hi! My name is Lora. I am so happy you are here to learn more about us and how we got started.
I am the founder of Solar Spectrum Press. I’ve been an artist my entire life and am a certified color consultant for the beauty, fashion, and interior design industry. I had an online consulting business for 8 years before starting this new venture. I am happy to bring my color and design knowledge and experience here.
While I was growing up, my mother worked at a local bookshop that specialized in rare and collectible books. I spent many hours perusing the aisles, and it fostered my love of book collecting.
Even though we live in a high-paced, digital age, I am a firm believer that physical books still have their place. They are endless sources of knowledge and inspiration. They offer something special that online articles and blog posts can’t.
Solar Spectrum Press grew from a simple truth: artists deserve access to the knowledge that shaped the generations before us. Many of these books vanished from circulation, even though their ideas haven’t lost relevance. I decided to help bring them back so they can live in classrooms, studios, and well-loved backpacks again.
You can read more about my process here.
Happy reading and creating!
Where does the name Solar Spectrum Press come from?
Before we called it the visible light spectrum, it was known as the solar spectrum, the range of colors revealed when sunlight is separated into its parts.
That idea felt like home to me.
Color exists because of light.
Light exists because of the sun.
And art, at its core, begins with understanding how light and color work together.
Solar Spectrum Press is rooted in that origin, celebrating timeless color theory, visual learning, and the way artists have studied light for centuries to better understand the world around them.
Everything starts with light.
And light starts with the sun.
